For whatever reason, I don't usually write sentimental, old-fashioned love songs. But I must say that I kinda like (Nothing Could) Ever Be Sweeter. I've listened to a lot of Appalachian and traditional acoustic stuff over the years, and I was probably going for that mood and sound when I wrote this. (I played the autoharp before I learned to play guitar, and I can imagine hearing Ever Be Sweeter played on the autoharp.) There's definitely a place for sentimental, old-fashioned love songs... who knows, maybe I'll write another one someday. -Steve H. |
1. There are so many ways to describe
you
Like an angel, like a queen on a
throne
Like a flower so fair, like a jewel
so rare
Like a beautiful clear mountain dawn
What I'm tryin' to say is, "I love
you"
And I mean it with all of my heart
I need you today, and I'll feel this
way
Darlin', 'til death do us part
chorus: And nothing could ever
be sweeter
There's nothing that I'd rather do
Than hold you in my arms / all night
long
And wake every morning / right next
to you
2. Now this song might seem too old-fashioned
But love never goes out of style
Through laughter and tears
It'll last through the years
Through moments and memories and
miles
And as sure as there are stars up
in heaven
We'll make those wedding bells ring
Love won't less us down, 'cause this
love we've found
Is a once-in-a-lifetime thing
chorus: And nothing could ever
be sweeter
There's nothing that I'd rather do
Than hold you in my arms / all night
long
And wake every morning / right next
to you.
"Ever Be
Sweeter" appears
